PIPPED AT THE POST!
The blue and orange racer came within a whisker of victory, being passed only on the very last lap - and the margin of victory at the end of the one hundred minute race was 0.353 of a second.
This maintains Gulf and AMR’s fantastic record of podium finishes in 2010 – three out of three races entered.
Adrian Fernández had grabbed a sensational pole position in 007, despite the car’s innate disadvantage of being designed for circuits like Le Mans rather than the streets of Long Beach.
Pole position was won by the narrowest of margins over the Highcroft Racing HRD ARX LMP car of Simon Pagenaud and former Gulf AMR driver, David Brabham. This set the tone for the titanic struggle that was to follow in the race, with the two cars battling it out right to the finish line.
Gulf Oil International Brand and Marketing Manager, Sam Cork sums up the weekend. “Coming hard on the heels of the Paul Ricard podium finish, this is another great result for Gulf and Aston Martin Racing. Congratulations again must go to the team who have had a really punishing week and hopefully this puts everyone in good shape for Le Mans itself in a couple of months.”
The build-up for the Le Mans 24 Hours now begins in earnest, with a programme of preparation and testing for the great race, which takes place over the weekend of 12-13 June.
