A WEEKEND OF KINGS
A WEEKEND OF KINGS
GULF TEAM EYES THE BIGGEST PRIZE IN WORLD LEAGUE CRICKET
The IPL (Indian Premier League) - the biggest league competition for Cricket in the world - reaches its climax tomorrow (Sat 28th May) and for the first time Gulf will be represented.
Through a local sponsorship by Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd in India, the Chennai Super Kings take on the winners of today’s match between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Mumbai Indians for the title. This finale takes place at the end of a 74 match tournament that kicked off in early April and has been followed by millions of cricket fans around the world.
The IPL is the richest tournament in the history of the game, with massive salaries attracting the top players from around the world. The "Twenty:20" format gives each side twenty overs and encourages spectacular scoring. The media coverage is huge and the excitement in cricket playing nations – but especially in the Middle East – is intense.
Included in its line-up Chennai Super Kings boasts the talents of local stars such as M S Dhoni (Captain of the Indian national team that recently won the Twenty:20 World Cup) and Suresh Raina, as well as international stars including South Africa’s Albie Morkel, Australia’s Michael Hussey and the West Indies' Dwayne Bravo.
The final match in the 2011 IPL Tournament starts at 20.00 Indian Standard Time (16.30 CET) and will be covered live on sports TV channels across the world.

GULF BIKE GOES FOR GLORY ON HOME TRACK
This weekend also sees the second round of the UEM European Drag Racing series for motorbikes, which will take place at the UK’s premier drag strip, Santa Pod.
Ian King will be looking for further success in the wake of his debut victory at the Kunmadaras track inHungary on the Gulf Dragracing Top Fuel Bike.
It was something of a dream debut for the team, which is sponsored by Gulf affiliates from all over the world, as well as Gulf’s official clothing licensee Dakota, through its Grand Prix Originals brand. The 1500 BHP monster took victory with a series of runs that included an excellent 6.57 pass over the quarter mile with a speed crossing the line well in excess of 200mph (320kmh).
The UK boasts a number of experienced top fuel drag racing motorbike teams and the competition this weekend is expected to be extremely intense. To be in with a chance of repeating his Hungarian success, Ian King on the Gulf bike may well have to be even quicker at Santa Pod – which is known to be one of the quickest tracks in Europe - but he is keen to put up a good show on home soil.
Qualifying for the Santa Pod meeting runs take place on Saturday and Sunday, with the elimination rounds due up on Monday.
